Terrance and I released a new Particle Bunni track this week called XXVIII as part of The Singles Club on the Discoastal Patreon.

This one came together in a way that felt a little different than usual.

For the track, Terrance asked our friend Serge Gubelman to record a passage from Victor Hugo in French. A few months later, a recording arrived: XXVIII from Les Contemplations.

My French is limited, so the process became mostly listening at first. The sound of the language arrived before the meaning. Over time, repetition slowly revealed fragments of what was being said, and I started building music around what the piece felt like as it unfolded.

The result became XXVIII, a collaboration between Particle Bunni and Serge.

I also created an abstract visual accompaniment for the piece, which you can watch below. Like a lot of the visuals I’ve been making lately, it’s less about directly illustrating something and more about building atmosphere around a feeling.

Serge has spent a lifetime making art across music, performance, photography, visual art, teaching, and more. If you are curious about his work, I’d definitely recommend spending some time with it.
